Annual North Alabama Health & Wellness Fair

The Annual North Alabama Health and Wellness Fair is scheduled for September 23, 2023 at the Calhoun Community College Huntsville campus. The fair will last from 10:00am – 1:00pm. The 100 Black Men of Greater Huntsville are excited about the opportunity to serve the community with some of the best FREE health/medical screening and testing available in the Tennessee Valley.

Our goal is to raise health awareness/education and to provide access to FREE health care and health information that will ultimately promote good behavior changes resulting in a healthier lifestyle.

Learn your Cancer Risk – Information is Power

HudsonAlpha is offering a genetic test for cancer risk to participants in the Health and Wellness programs being offered. The Information is Power program is a test of your genes to determine whether you have any changes that would increase your lifetime risk for cancer.  Our test provides information about an individual’s risk for breast, ovarian, colon, prostate, and pancreatic cancers.

How does this test work:

  • Registration is online. information-is-power.org
  • Genetic counseling educational materials are available online when you register.
  • This test is completely contactless: you will receive a kit by mail to collect your sample. You mail your sample back using the provided envelope.
  • You and the physician you indicate at registration will receive all results by email or phone.
  • If the test identifies a change in your DNA that significantly increases your cancer risk, you will receive a call from a genetic counselor who will explain the result and provide the resources you need to get the recommended follow-up.

Important information about the test being offered:

  • This test tells about your risk for developing cancer. It does NOT tell you whether you currently have cancer
  • Your data will not be used for other purposes, unless you choose to participate in research. Participation in research is not required.
  • Additional information about the program can be found at: https://hudsonalpha.org/information-is-power/faqs-for-patients/

We will be offering 50 free tests on a first-come first-serve basis. To sign up for the test, please visit the Information is Power webpage: www.information-is-power.org
